3. Do I qualify for an exemption from the LPI?

NOTE: UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan have different requirements for eligibility for first-year English. Please ensure that you have met the requirements for the campus at which you plan to take first-year English.

For Students Admitted to UBC Vancouver
after September 2009*

Exemption from the LPI requirement is determined according to the following criteria:

* If you were admitted to UBC prior to September 2009, please contact your Faculty's advising office to confirm your degree requirements.

 

** For BC Students Only:

In conjunction with 2009 changes to BC provincial exam requirements, “final” means either the final course-only grade assigned by the teacher, or the final grade including the government examination, whichever is higher.

Students who do not meet one of the above exemptions must meet the required LPI standard by the specified deadline.

If you have any concern that for any reason you might not meet these exemption requirements, we strongly encourage you to write the LPI.
